Wasike earns third honor while Cheboson also picks up Freshman of the Week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday that the University of Louisville cross country teams have received three ACC Cross Country Performer of the Week honors for last week's competition. For the third time this season, junior Dorcas Wasike was named the ACC Women's Performer of the Week, while freshman Emmanuel Cheboson earned both the ACC Men's Co-Performer of the Week and ACC Men's Freshman of the Week.
For Wasike, this is the fifth ACC weekly honor of her career, following her two previous accolades this season. Last Saturday at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, Wasike remained unbeaten on the year with a 5K victory, posting a time of 16:27.8 that finished 11 seconds ahead of Wofford's Hannah Steelman and set a pace time of 5:17. In her third win of the season, she nearly set the meet record, falling just a second behind the 16:26.70 posted by Michigan's Erin Finn in 2016.
After receiving Freshman of the Week two weeks ago, Cheboson adds his first Performer of the Week award following a victory in the Louisville Cross Country Classic. With an 8K time of 23:41.1, Cheboson took his first multi-team victory by three seconds over Kentucky's Brennan Fields while posting a pace time of 4:45. The Eldoret, Kenya native now has two wins and a runner-up finish as the Cards head the Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Madison, Wisc.
