Wasike named Performer of the Week for the fourth time this seaaon
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday that the University of Louisville cross country teams have received two ACC weekly honors. For the fourth time this season, junior Dorcas Wasike was named the ACC Women's Performer of the Week, while freshman Emmanuel Cheboson earned the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week for the third time.
Wasike has now won ACC accolades for all four performances of her 2018 season. Last Saturday at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, she nearly broke her personal 8K record as she finished third with a time of 19:55.5, placing behind the New Mexico duo of Weini Kelati and defending NCAA champion Ednah Kurgat. Wasike's time ranked third among all women's competitors in the two-race event and narrowly missed the mark of 19:54.1 she turned in at last season's ACC Championships at Tom Sawyer Park.
Cheboson has now earned four ACC accolades, including a Men's Performer of the Week award two weeks ago. In his Pre-Nationals debut, he completed a tremendous rally to finish eighth, moving up from 65th place at the 2K mark to finish with a time of 24:00.6. Among all runners at Wisconsin, his time placed 17th in the overall standings.
Wasike, Cheboson, and the rest of the Cardinals will next compete at the ACC Championships on Friday, Oct. 26 in Boston.
