Schmid Named to the Fred Haskins Award Watch List

Matthias Schmid has posted three top-10 performances this fall.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's golfer Matthias Schmid was named to the Fred Haskins Award Watch List, which is given to the best college golfer, as voted by players, coaches, and media.

Schmid, who has taken over as one of the team's top performers, is off to a great second season with the Cardinals. In three events this fall, Schmid has garnered three top-10 performances.

The Maxhvette, Germany, native won the Old Town Club Collegiate Schmid by setting the school record, and helping the Cardinals win the overall tournament by one stroke. Schmid fired an 18-under-par 192, shooting in the 60s in all three rounds. He finished third in the Louisville Cardinal Challenge by shooting a 10-under-par and was tied for eighth at the Intercollegiate at the Grove.

Last season, Schmid posted a 71.72 stroke average and three top-10 finishes in leading the Cardinals to their 10th NCAA Regional appearance.
