Schneidtmiller Joins Field Hockey Coaching Staff

University of Louisville head coach Justine Sowry has announced that Erin Schneidtmiller will return to her alma mater as an assistant coach. Schneidtmiller, who played for the Cardinals from 2010 through 2013, will be responsible for practice and game day preparation, student-athlete mentoring and development, recruiting, alumnae relations, community service, camps and clinics.

"I am ecstatic that Erin is returning home to Louisville, the UofL field hockey program and joining our coaching staff in 2018 and beyond," said Sowry. "Erin is a talented and enthusiastic young coach who will no doubt make an indelible impact on our young attacking line."

Schneidtmiller joins Sowry's coaching staff after three seasons as an assistant coach at American University. During her time there, she helped direct the Eagles to 39 wins, two Patriot League finals and the 2016 league championship followed by an NCAA tournament appearance.

"I am thrilled to be coming back to the University of Louisville," said Schneidtmiller. "The city alone means so much to me, as it is home, but my experience there as a student-athlete makes it all the more special. It is an extraordinary place with world-class resources and such a supportive community. I look forward to working under the leadership of Justine and Lucas, as both had a huge impact on my development as a player and will certainly help me progress as a coach. Louisville Field Hockey has such a bright future ahead and I am beyond excited to contribute to the growth of the program."

Prior to her time at American, Schneidtmiller worked with the field hockey team at her high school alma mater, Louisville's Mercy Academy, and coached with Bluegrass Elite field hockey club. After graduating from Louisville in 2014, she continued her playing career in Bremen, Germany with the Bremer Hockey Club.

A four-year letterwinner with the Cardinals, Schneidtmiller earned first-team All-BIG EAST and All-West Region accolades in her senior campaign. That year, she ranked third on the team with nine goals and 21 points, helping lead Louisville to a 15-5 overall record and a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title. The three-time All-Big East Conference academic selection graduated from UofL in May 2014 with a bachelor's degree in communications.

"As a student-athlete at U of L, Erin made an immediate impression on me," said Sowry. "It was clear from the outset that she had a strong work ethic, blue collar and team-first mentality and above all else was proud to be part of something bigger than herself. As a coach, she now has an opportunity to once again represent the University of Louisville, mentor and develop our young women, and assist in our mission to win a championship. Her passion and loyalty to our program and university do not go unnoticed. I am both thrilled and proud that Lucas and I now get to work side-by-side with Erin as a colleague after coaching her as a student-athlete."
