
Schmid Leads Cardinals at the Bearcat Invitational

Matthias Schmidt posts his second top-10 finish by shooting 8-under par.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Matthias Schmidt fired a final round 2-under par 69, leading the Louisville men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Bearcat Invitational at the Coldstream Golf Cub in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Collectively, the Cardinals shot a 6-under par on Tuesday morning, and finished the two-day event at 12-under par for the tournament to finish in seventh place. Louisville shot 278-284-278=840 to finish 20 shots off the pace.
Kentucky won the tournament at 32-under par, while Arkansas was second at 26-under par.
For the second-straight tournament, Schmid led the Cardinals with a top-10 finish. After shooting 6-under par in the first two rounds, Schmid was 2-under par to finish in a tie for sixth place and was one of only 23 players to shoot under par.
The native of Maxhvette, Germany, opened his collegiate career with a fourth-place standing at the Rod Meyers Invitational last weekend.
Junior Simon Zach shot 70-69-73=212 to finish in a tie for 20th-place, while Keegan de Lange's 3-under par 68 on Tuesday moved him up to 32nd place after shooting 71-76-68=215.
Sophomore Trevor Johnson finished in 37th place after carding a 71-74-71=216, while Nicolas Platret tied for 42nd after recording 72-75-70=217. Hugh O'Hare ended the tournament in a tie for 66th after his final rounds of 74-71-83=228.
The Cardinals return to action this weekend as they host the Louisville Cardinal Challenge on Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
