McFerran Named ACC Field Hockey Co-Defensive Player of the Week

McFerran helped the Cards to a pair of wins over top-15 teams
GREENSBORO, N.C. –The University of Louisville's Ayeisha McFerran was named ACC Co-Defensive Players of the Week along with North Carolina's Amanda Hendry as announced by the league office Monday.

McFerran posted seven saves on the weekend to help the Cardinals to a pair of wins over top-15 opponents. The junior from Larne, Northern Ireland, was instrumental in Louisville's 3-2 shootout victory over No. 11 Wake Forest. She posted five saves through 100:00 of play – including three in the second sudden-victory overtime period. McFerran also thwarted three shootout attempt by the Demon Deacons as the Cardinals sealed the victory with a 2-0 margin in the shootout. She followed that performance with two saves in the 4-1 win over No. 13 James Madison on Sunday. After her second save of the game, she cleared the ball out of the circle, starting a breakaway which led to an insurance goal for the Cardinals.

The 15th-ranked Cardinals (6-4, 1-1 ACC) will return to action on Friday when they welcome No. 6 Syracuse to Trager Stadium their sixth-consecutive game against a top-15 opponent.Â
