Nicole Woods played in every game of the USWNT's bronze medal run
The University of Louisville's Nicole Woods helped USA Field Hockey's National Team to a bronze medal in the 2017 Pan American Cups this weekend at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Lancaster, Pa.
Â
The rising senior co-captain from Beverly, Mass., played in all five matches to help the USWNT, No. 4 in the FIH World rankings, to a 3-1-1 record and a bronze medal. After opening pool play with a 6-0 win over Mexico and battling Canada to a 1-1 draw, the USWNT routed Brazil 9-0 to finish atop Pool B standings with a 2-0-1 mark. Â In the semifinals, a late goal lifted Chile to a 4-3 win to place the U.S. in the bronze medal game where they prevailed 2-1 over Canada.
Â
In July, Woods also helped the USWNT to the World League Semifinals championship. Since being added to the USWNT roster for the series against Ireland in May 2017, Woods has collected 14 caps. Prior to joining the USWNT, Woods had been a member of USA Field Hockey's Under 21 team since the spring of 2016.
Â
Woods returns to Louisville in time for preseason training as the Cardinals will take on Miami (Ohio) in a preseason scrimmage on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
