Julie Anne (Smith) Bishop kicks off field hockey's Alumnae Spotlight Series
Throughout the remainder of the summer, the University of Louisville field hockey program will feature an Alumnae Spotlight highlighting former players and providing brief updates on where their post-collegiate careers have taken them. Julie Anne (Smith) Bishop played for the Cardinals from 2006 through 2009 following a redshirt season in 2005. The Louisville native scored seven goals and helped Louisville to three Big East Championships and one NCAA appearance. Â She was a five-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad member and was named to the Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.

Julie Anne earned her Bachelor of Science in biology and psychology in 2010 and started medical school in the fall of 2010. After graduating from medical school in 2014, she started her residency in Pathology at University of Louisville Hospital where she determines whether biopsies are benign or malignant and also works in the lab reviewing blood smears and other laboratory tests to determine whether they are normal or abnormal.

Upon graduation in 2018, Julie Anne will move to Nashville to do a one-year fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Vanderbilt Medical Center.Â
