
Kibichiy Leads Track and Field at NCAA Championships on Wednesday

Troutman and Moore earn honorable mention All-American honors
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Edwin Kibichiy led the Cardinals as the 2017 NCAA Track and Field Championship kicked off at Hayward Field in Eugene on Wednesday.
Kibichiy advanced to the 3,000 meter steeplechase finals on Friday after winning the semifinals. Kibichiy led all competitors with a time of 8:41.07. He finished third in the event last season, earning first team All-American honors. Kibichiy earned second team All-American honors the previous two seasons.
"Edwin was able to control the steeplechase semifinal from start to finish and led all qualifiers with a time of 8:41.07," said head coach Dale Cowper. "It will be exciting to see him race with a national championship opportunity on the line Friday evening."
Troutman was the first to compete for the Cardinals on Wednesday. He finished 17th with a throw of 65.09m (213-6). He wrapped up the best season of his career with his first NCAA Championship appearance. The senior earned honorable mention All-American honors.
"Trevor was able to get the day off to a great start in the hammer throw," said Cowper. "He opened up with the second best throw of his career. He has been a tremendous representative of our program over the last five years and it was great to see him earn a trip to national finals to end his career."
Moore also earned honorable mention All-American honors in his first NCAA Championship appearance. The sophomore finished 18th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.93.
"Martice was also able to improve upon his rank coming into the semifinals tonight," said Cowper. "This has been a great experience for him to make the trip out to Eugene as a sophomore. He is someone that will be able to make an impact at this meet in the future."
On Thursday, Emmonnie Henderson will compete in the first of two events, the shot put at 9:40 p.m. ET. Henderson is making her third NCAA Championship appearance after earning All-America honors in the shot put last year.
