Cardinals close season ranked No. 19/20 while making a fourth straight NCAA Tournament Appearance
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Some thought that that 2017 would be a rebuilding year for the Louisville lacrosse team but that was not the case. The Cardinals surprised team after team and as the season progressed, finding itself among the elite teams in the nation.
"This was a season of sweet surprises for both the players and coaches," said head coach Kellie Young. "Our student-athletes saw that when work is put in, great results can be enjoyed.  Our staff was continually impressed by the team's gratitude for our efforts. I am very thankful for this group of young women and although sad to say goodbye to our seniors, I am excited to see what the future holds for Louisville Lacrosse."
Louisville made its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance while finishing the season ranked in the top 20. Three Cardinals earned All-American honors, ranking them second among ACC teams in All-Americans. Goalkeeper Brittany Read became the first Louisville player to earn an ACC player of the year honor.
Â
The Cardinals also posted the program's 100th win along with wins over Duke and Syracuse for the first time in program history. While the 2017 season did not end the way head coach Kellie Young wanted it to – the totality of the season left excitement for the future of the program and the promise of what the 2018 season will bring.Â
