
Ayars and Walsh Named to USA Field Hockey's Young Women's National Championship

Carter Ayars and Katie Walsh will compete in the tournament June 12-16
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Louisville's Carter Ayars and Katie Walsh have been selected to participate in the 2017 Young Women's National Championship (YWNC) which will take place June 12-16 at the Spooky Nook Sports Center in Lancaster, Pa.

The Young Women's National Championship serves as a high-level, international structured competition which is a selection avenue to Junior National Camps and the Development Squad Camp.Â

Ayars, a rising sophomore defender from Wilmington, Del., played in all 21 games with four starts and helped the Cardinals post seven shutouts and limit opponents to 26 goals in 21 games.

Walsh, a rising junior midfielder from Louisville, Ky., played in all 21 games with six starts and scored one goal in 2016.

Last season, Louisville posted a 15-6 overall record and earned and at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for the third straight season. The Cardinals were ranked No. 9 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Poll after spending the entire regular season ranked in the top 10, reaching as high as No. 6.
