Stone selected to USWNT U-21 team, Walsh earns Developmental Squad trial
After four days of practice and training in USA Field Hockey program, the University of Louisville's Taylor Stone was named to the 2017 U.S. Under-21 Women's National Team and Katie Walsh was offered a trial for the Developmental Squad following the completion of the 2017 collegiate season.Â
Â
Stone, a rising junior from Herndon, Va., continues her stint in the USWNT U-21 team after initially being selected to the squad in early 2017. The defender earned a spot on the roster for a test series against England in April. She is a two-year starter for the Cardinals and is coming off of a sophomore campaign in which she scored four goals while helping Louisville to an ACC-best seven shutouts.
Â
Walsh, a rising junior from Louisville, Ky., was selected to the Developmental Camp in mid-June and received an invitation for another trial following Louisville's 2017 campaign. The midfielder played in all 21 games with six starts and scored one goal in 2016.
Â
Last season, Louisville posted a 15-6 overall record and earned and at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for the third straight season. The Cardinals were ranked No. 9 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Poll after spending the entire regular season ranked in the top 10, reaching as high as No. 6.
