De Lange Opens NCAA Regional Play in 53rd Place

Sophomore fires a 5-over par 77 on Monday.
University of Louisville sophomore men's golfer Keegan de Lange has some work to do after one round at NCAA West Lafayette Regional at the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Playing in his second NCAA event, de Lange struggled on the difficult course that has hosted numerous NCAA tournament events over the years.
"It was a poor start for Keegan," head coach Mark Crabtree said. "He struggled all day on a very difficult course, especially when you aren't sharp. We hope to see major improvement for him on Tuesday."
De Lange, who is one of 10 individuals competing at the regional, fired a 5-over par 77 to stand in a tie for 53rd place overall. Illinois State's Trent Wallace is the top individual in second place after shooting a 4-under par 68.
Starting on the first hole, de Lange bogeyed four of the first nine holes to shoot a 4-over par on the front nine.
The native of Pretoria, South Africa, de Lange played well on the back, firing a one over par. He recorded his first birdie of the tournament when he birdied No. 11 to move to 4-over par. He would later score again on No. 15.
De Lange will tee off at 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning to begin his second round of action.
