Cards snap seven-game win streak
ATLANTA - The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 17 Georgia Tech in an ACC matchup Sunday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The loss snaps a season-high seven match win streak for the Cardinals (18-5, 5-3 ACC).
"We came up one court short," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Nicolas was on top of his game and dominated. George and Parker competed very hard and were clutch as well. 18-5 is still a good record and we want to continue to build on that. This team is extremely coachable and rarely has a bad effort day. They are a lot of fun to coach."
Georgia Tech (15-3, 7-1) took the doubles point to start the match with wins on courts one and two. Senior Sean Donohue and freshman Parker Wynn who entered the week at No. 50 in the ITA doubles rankings, fell 6-3 to Christopher Eubanks and Carlos Benito at No. 1. The point was decided on court two where sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and freshman Clement Filho lost 6-4 to Cole Fiegel and Andrew Li.
In singles, Tech's fifth-ranked Eubanks defeated No. 114 Morin-Kougoucheff 6-1, 6-2 at the one-spot to make the score 2-0. Daniel Yun added to the lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Filho at No. 6. Carlos Divar sealed the win with a 6-3, 6-2 decision against sophomore Brandon Lancaster on court four.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard on court two where Junior Nicolas Rouanet upset No. 89 Li 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore George Hedley's 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Fiegel at the five-spot brought the score to 4-2. Wynn wrapped up the match with a 5-7, 7-6, 10-7 victory over Benito at No. 3.
The Cardinals will continue ACC play next weekend with a pair of road matches at Clemson and No. 1 Wake Forest.
