Salem, S.C.— University of Louisville sophomore Keegan de Lange fired a 2-over par 74 after the first round of the Second Annual Clemson Invitational Men's Golf Tournament at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C. The second round of the 13-team tournament will be played on Saturday.
Clemson holds a two-shot lead over Georgia Tech with a 298 score, while Alabama is in third place at 298, four shots back. The Cardinals are in sixth place, 13 shots off the lead heading into the second round of action.
The 13 teams and 70 players faced difficult conditions with winds gusting to 25 MPH the entire day. The average score was 78.29, or 6.29 strokes over par. The weather is expected to improve on Saturday and Sunday for the final two rounds.
Junior Nicolas Platret was up-and-down all day, finishing with a 3-over par 75. He birdied the first hole and also scored on No. 13 and No. 16 to end the first round in a tie for 15th-place.
Freshman Devon Morely is tied for 25th-place after firing a first-round score of 77, which was 5-over par. Freshman Trevor Johnson is tied for 50th place after his opening round of 81, while sophomore Simon Zach shot an uncharacteristic 82 to sit in a tie for 54th-place.
