Women's Tennis to Face Syracuse in First Round of ACC Championships

Competition begins April 26 in Rome, Georgia
The University of Louisville women's tennis team will face Syracuse at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 26 in the first round of the ACC Tennis Championships. Â
Defending champions North Carolina will hold the top seed for the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship, which begins Wednesday, April 26 at Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Wednesday's first-round action will begin with No. 12 Boston College facing No. 13 Virginia Tech at 10 a.m., No. 10 Notre Dame squaring off against No. 15 Pitt at 1 p.m., and No. 11 Syracuse taking on No. 14 Louisville in another 1 p.m. match.

The Virginia/Florida State second-round match opens the slate on Thursday at 1 p.m. No. 5 NC State gets action at 1 p.m., as well, against the winner of Boston College/Virginia Tech, while No. 6 Wake Forest will take on the winner of Syracuse/Louisville and No. 7 Clemson will face the winner of Notre Dame/Pitt in a pair of other 4 p.m. matches.

Teams receiving double-byes to Friday's quarterfinal round along with North Carolina include No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Miami.
The Tar Heels see their first tournament action on Friday, when they will take on the winner of Thursday's second-round match between No. 8 Virginia and No. 9 Florida State. North Carolina will enter the championship in search of its eighth ACC title.

Shawn Kenney will handle play-by-play at the championship with live ACC Network Extra coverage set from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. ESPN anchor Prim Siripipat will handle color commentary.

Siripipat attended Saddlebrook Preparatory School, where she trained with Jennifer Capriati, Andy Roddick, Martina Hingis and Mardy Fish. She traveled the world with the U.S. National team and eventually finished in the top 10 in the country for players aged 18 and under. She attended Duke on a full scholarship. The Blue Devils women's team was ranked among the top 10 and won the Indoor National Championship her senior year.

Kenney, a veteran announcer who has covered multiple sports on ESPN platforms, will work the ACC Tennis Championships for the third straight year.
LAST MEETING
The University of Louisville women's tennis team dropped the doubles point and then won two of the four three-set singles matches before falling 5-2 to ACC rival Syracuse Friday evening in Syracuse.

In doubles, Jessie Paul and Olivia Boesing rolled 6-1 over Nicole Mitchell and Maria Tritou at No. 3. But Anna Shkudun and Dina Hegab beat Cardinals pair Elle Stokes and Ariana Rodriguez 6-2 before SU's Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez just edged Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1.

In singles, the Cardinals got wins from Abbie Pahz, who outlasted Maria Tritou 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 4. Elle Stokes hung on to beat Anna Shkudun 7-6 (2-7), 5-7, 14-12 at No. 3. Mariana Humberg won her first set 6-4 at No. 2 but her opponent, Gabriela Knutson roared back 6-1, 6-0 for the win. UofL's Tiffany Huber lost her first set 7-5 but came back to win the second 6-2 before falling 10-7 to Dina Hegab at No. 5.
