Women's Tennis Falls to No. 3 North Carolina

Cardinals host No. 40 Virginia on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 7-0 to third-ranked North Carolina on Thursday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals move to 13-10 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
Â
"It's always exciting to get to play the best," UofL head coach Mark Beckham said after the loss. "There's not too many teams that are better than them, so it's always a gauge of where you're at. I was disappointed with the doubles because we had it. It was right there, and I always tell them we're not playing a series where we have to win three out of five, it's just on that day. Whatever we're supposed to have on that day I want us to have it. Today, we should have had that doubles point. No ifs ands or buts about it, but we let it slip. I think the pressure of playing North Carolina got to us. We play to win these types of matches. We should have gotten that point; it doesn't mean we're going to win the match as a whole but that was the one disappointment. After that, the usual thing, it actually freed them up because we actually had them on their heels a bit in doubles. When they stole that it freed them up in singles and they didn't give us too many opportunities. We created a few, but they really didn't give us too many. They're just good, I can't be disappointed with how the singles went. They're a very good team."
Â
In doubles action, Olivia Boesing and Aleksandra Mally defeated Jessie Aney 6-1 on No. 3. At the one-spot, the No. 30 duo of Hayley Carter and Sara Daavettila defeated Tiffany Huber and Ariana Rodriguez 6-2. North Carolina took the doubles point after winning a hard fought match on No. 2 against Elle Stokes and Jessi Paul 7-6 (7-3).
Â
In singles action, Cassandra Vazquez defeated Jessie Paul 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. At the four-spot, No. 47 Alexa Graham defeated Ariana Rodriguez 6-0, 6-1. On No. 1, second-ranked Hayley Carter defeated Aleksandra Mally 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Tar Heels. No. 27 Jessie Aney defeated Tiffany Huber at the three-spot 6-1, 6-3. On No. 5, Chloe Ouellet-Pizer defeated Olivia Boesing 6-2, 6-4. At the two-spot, eighth-ranked Sara Daavettila defeated Elle Stokes 7-5, 6-0.
