Kahlert earns the honor for the fourth straight season
University of Louisville seniors Lotta Kahlert and Lizzie Gittens have been named 2016 ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Scholars of Distinction.
This the fourth straight year Kahlert has earned the honor while Gittens garnered the award in her lone season as a graduate transfer at UofL. The NFHCA Scholar of Distinction Award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 season.
Kahlert, a senior midfielder from Hamburg, Germany was a 2016 team co-captain and a three-year starter who earned 2016 Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region second team honors after scoring a career-best nine goals and dishing out three assists for 21 points. The sport administration and health and human performance major is a three-time All-ACC Academic team member and four-time National Academic Team selection. She is also a two-time ACC honor roll member and six-time Dean's Scholar.Â
Gittens, a graduate student from Southampton, England, started every game in 2016. The defender stood third on the team with six goals – including three game-winners - and had 15 points. She helped anchor a defense which has produced six shutouts and limited opponents to 21 goals in 21 games for a 1.22 team goals against average.
While pursuing a master's degree in criminal justice, she was named to the Dean's List and the athletic director's honor roll in 2016 fall semester.
Louisville finished the 2016 season with a 15-6 overall record and made its third-consecutive NCAA appearance. The Cardinals were ranked No. 9 in the final Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Poll after spending the entire regular season ranked in the top 10, reaching as high as No. 6.
