Senior Nicole Woods becames the first Louisville player to earn the honor
The University of Louisville's Nicole Woods has been named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association West Region Player of the Year as announced Tuesday. She becomes the first player in program history to earn the honor.

Woods, a midfielder/forward from Beverly, Mass., earns the award after collecting her third straight NFHCA All-West Region honor. As a senior co-captain, she tallied 19 points (6G, 7A) while helping Louisville (14-8) reach the finals of the ACC Championship for the first time since joining the league in 2014. The three-time ACC selection is a four-year starter is a three-time All-ACC selection and finishes her career ranked ninth on Louisville's list for career points (71) and assists (25).
She is also a member of USA Field Hockey's women's national team and helped the USWNT capture the 2017 World League title and earn a bronze medal in the Pan American Cups.

The Cards finished the 2017 season with a 14-8 overall record after earning their fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance and posting a runner-up finish in the ACC championship. UofL also posted a 4-2 record in ACC play - the most wins since joining the conference in 2014 - and finished tied for second in the regular season standings.
