
Five Field Hockey Players Earn Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region Honors

McFerran, Mink, Stone, Woods selected to first team, Ayars named to second team
The University of Louisville placed five players on the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-West Region team as announced Monday. Senior Nicole Woods, juniors Ayeisha McFerran and Taylor Stone and sophomore Minout Mink were selected to the first team while sophomore Carter Ayars earned second team honors. Louisville was one of 10 programs with five or more honorees.

Woods, a senior midfielder/forward from Beverly, Mass., takes home her third straight NFHCA All-Region honor after tallying 18 points (6G, 6A). The 2017 team co-captain is a three-time All-ACC selection and four-year starter and was named to the NFHCA Senior Game roster. She is also a member of USA Field Hockey's women's national team.

McFerran, a junior goalkeeper from Larne, Northern Ireland earns her third consecutive All-Region selection. The two-time NFHCA All-America and All-ACC selection missed the first three games of the season, but went on to post a 10-7 record and a 1.91 goals against average. She was selected to the 2017 ACC All-Tournament team and earned the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 26.

Stone, a junior from Herndon, Va., earns her first NFHCA All-Region nod after scoring seven goals and dishing out three assists. The 2017 All-ACC selection converted four of five penalty stroke attempts and scored the game-winning goal against Syracuse and North Carolina. She garnered ACC Defensive Player of the Week, Longstreth NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week and Synapse National Defensive Player of the Week for her performances. Stone is a member of USA Field Hockey's Under 21 team.

Mink, a sophomore forward from Haaksbergen, Netherlands, is making her second consecutive appearance on the all-region team. The two-time all-ACC second selection led the Cardinals with 11 goals and 25 points has collected four game-winning goals, two against ranked opponents Boston College and Delaware. She currently stands tied for eighth on the school's list for career goals (26).

Ayars, a sophomore from Wilmington, Del., was named to the ACC Field Hockey Championship all-tournament team after helping the Cardinals to the championship match. She started all 22 games in the backfield and was instrumental in guiding a defense which produced a 1.67 team goals against average on the season.

The Cards finished the 2017 season with a 14-8 overall record after earning their fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance and posting a runner-up finish in the ACC championship. UofL also posted a 4-2 record in ACC play - the most wins since joining the conference in 2014 - and finished tied for second in the regular season standings. Louisville was ranked No. 8 in the final National Field Hockey Coaches' Association poll after being ranked in the top 10 for six weeks in 2017.
