Matthias Schmid ranks ninth, while Simon Zach places 12th.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two University of Louisville men's golfers were among the Top 25 collegiate golfers in the nation in the latest Palmer Cup Player Rankings.
Freshman Matthias Schmid and Simon Zach were ranked in the top 15 of the recent ranking, released by Golfweek.com.
Schmid enters the rankings in ninth place after a solid first season with the Cardinals. The native of Germany posted a 69.83 stroke average, finishing in the top 10 in three different tournaments and twice in the top five.
Zach, who recently won the Princeville Warrior Invitational by shooting a 21-under par 195, had a remarkable fall campaign with a 69.39 stroke average and enters the rankings at No. 12. Outside of his first win, Zach was third at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge and sixth at the Bank of Tennessee.
The Palmer Cup Rankings use GolfStat's NCAA Player Rankings as a base for the polls, awarding bonus points for wins and high finishes and negative bonus points for poor finishes.
The top six golfers from the final ranking in the Spring from both the United States and International men and women - 12 total golfers - shall be among the 24 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup July 6-8. The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup will be the first using the expanded format of United States men's and women's collegiate golfers versus their counterparts from around the world.
The remaining six men's and women's spots for the United States will consist of five committee selections, including at least one non-Division I golfer, and a coaches pick. The balance of the International team will include the men's and women's winners of The R&A Scholars Tournament, four committee selections and a coaches pick.
