Anas Mahmoud led the Cardinals with 20 points
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Five Cardinals scored in double-figures to boost the University of Louisville men's basketball team to a 101-64 win over the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on Monday night in the first of two exhibition games. In a total team win, the Cardinals finished the game with 22 assists on 41 baskets made.
Anas Mahmoud led the Cardinals in scoring with 20 points. The senior also logged seven blocks, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Ray Spalding also had a solid night for the Cards, tallying 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block. Also scoring in double-figures were Dwayne Sutton with 13 points, Deng Adel with 12 points, and Quentin Snider with 10 points. Snider also led the team with five assists and collected five rebounds
The Panthers kept the game close in the opening minutes, but a three-pointer from Snider just over three minutes in kick-started the Louisville offense. From that moment on, the Cardinals controlled the pace of the game. Over the next eight minutes, Louisville went on a 22-6 run, forcing the Panthers into a timeout after back-to-back three-pointers from Malik Williams and Darius Perry increased their lead to 35-14.
With a comfortable lead at the midway point, the Cardinals continued to dominate offensively through the remainder of the first half. Louisville used 65 percent shooting from the field and 70 percent shooting from beyond the arc to take a 54-35 lead over Kentucky Wesleyan heading into the break.
Sutton went 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from three-point range to lead the Cardinals with 11 points at the half. Snider and Mahmoud also scored in double-figures, each tallying 10 points apiece. Snider added four rebounds and four assists, while Mahmoud had three assists, three blocks, and two steals.
The second half transpired much like the first, as the Cardinals continued to roll on offense. Louisville went on a 20-2 run to open the half and never looked back. The Cardinals largest lead maxed out at 44 points with just over three minutes remaining in the game, enabling them to defeat the Panthers by a margin of 101-64.
Louisville finished the game shooting 54 percent from the field and 33 percent from the three-point line, while Kentucky Wesleyan shot 42 percent from field goal range and 10 percent from beyond the arc. The Cardinals outrebounded the Panthers 41-33 and earned 17 steals and 12 blocks.
The Panthers had three players score double-digit points. They were led by Dakota Quinn with 14 points and eight rebounds, followed by Rasheide Bell with 12 points and seven rebounds. Bird Cardwell added 11 points and grabbed three rebounds.
