
Men's Golf Closes Out Fall Season in Hawaii

The Cardinals are coming off a third-place finish at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The University of Louisville men's golf team closes out the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule with a trip to Hawaii, taking part in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitaitonal on Oct. 29-31 at the Princeville Makai Golf Club. The competition begins at 8 a.m. local time with the teams playing 18 holes each day at the par-72, 7.223 yard course.
The Cardinals, the No. 37 team in the recent GolfWeek rankings, will face six team ranked in the top 50. The field includes: Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Colorado (47), East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern (31), Hawai'i, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, defending champion Mississippi (38), Missouri (15), Sam Houston State, San Diego, San Diego State (48), UCLA (25), UMKC, Utah Valley, Wake Forest (5) and Washington.
Playing in it's fifth event of tbe fall, the Cardinals will send junior Simon Zach, freshman Matthias Schmid, juniors Erik Dulik and Keegan de Lange, and senior Nicolas Platret.
In its last time out, the Cardinals put together one of the best performances in school history to finish third at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla..
Posting the third-best round in relation to par in school history, the Cardinals fired an two-day total of 24-under par to finish one shot behind second place Michigan State. South Florida took home the tournament title after recording a 44-under par (820).
Collectively, The Cardinals, who will close out the fall season next weekend at the Warrior Princeville in, Kauai, Hawaii, shot 277-285-278=840, which was the eight-lowest 54-hole score in school history. It was the best total since shooting an 841 at the The McLaughlin during the 2012-13 season.
Two Cardinals finished in the top 15 as Simon Zach and Matthias Schmid paced the Cardinals during the two-day tournament. Both players led the Cardinals on the final day with a 4-under par 68. Zach tied for 15th by carding a 70-72-68=210 and Schmid shot 70-72-68=210.
