Cardinals host first of three home events
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's cross-country teams continue their home stretch this weekend with the Adidas Pre-National Cross-Country Meet on Saturday, Oct. 14 at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
In a preview of the upcoming NCAA Championships at the site, 63 men's and 70 women's squads will compete in four races on Saturday morning. The men's 8K races will feature runners from nationally-ranked BYU, Georgetown and Ole Miss, while the women's 6K events will entertain ranked teams from Michigan, Arkansas and Georgia.
The event will commence with the men's seeded race at 10 a.m., followed by the women's seeded race at 10:45 a.m. The remaining runners will compete in unseeded races with the men starting at 11:30 a.m. and the women at 12:15 p.m. Louisville will compete in the final three races of the meet.
The Cardinals' women's team enters the weekend ranked fifth in the Southeast region, after a solid performance at the Greater Louisville Classic. The Cards placed seventh in the event, led by Dorcas Wasike's 14th-place finish and four personal best times set in the meet.
Louisville's men's team looks to rebound from a tough performance in its last outing, although redshirt freshman Albert Kosgei did set a personal record time. In their previous two runs, the Cardinals earned individual titles at Tennessee and Indiana State.
The Cardinals will return to Sawyer Park in two weeks as they host the ACC Championships on Friday, Oct. 27. The site will also host the NCAA Division I Championships on Nov. 18.
