LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing program will host an Open House and Learn-to-Row Day at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center on Sunday, Feb. 19. The Open House is free of charge and scheduled for 10 a.m., ET to noon. The Learn-to-Row session costs $45 per person and is set for 1:30 p.m., to 4 p.m.
This day is tailored for high school juniors and seniors who have no rowing experience. The goal is to introduce them to the sport of rowing and provide more information on the opportunities to row at the collegiate level.Â
The open house will include a tour of the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center, introduction of the the coaches and the team's support staff and an outline on what it is like to be an NCAA Division I student-athlete at UofL. The Learn-to-Row will be directed by the Louisville coaching staff, who will provide the girls with instructions on the ergs and the indoor tanks, where they can hold an actual oar. There will also be a land workout.Â
The Learn-to-Row session is limited to the first 32 girls to RSVP. To RSVP or to gain more information, email assistant coach Hannah Ritter at Hannah.Ritter@louisville.edu.
"Rowing in college as a walk-on is an incredibly unique opportunity," said Louisville rowing head coach Derek Copeland. "Exceptional athletes can join the team with no experience whatsoever, and by the end of the year can be competing for spots in our conference championship boats. We're excited to host this open-house and clinic to introduce more athletes to the sport of rowing."
