Women's Tennis Set to Host WKU and Detroit

Cards play Toppers at 11 a.m. and Detroit at 4 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
The University of Louisville is set to host the University of Detroit-Mercy and Western Kentucky University on Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Cardinals will face off against the Hilltoppers at 11 a.m. and the Titans at 4 p.m.
"We had some brief lapses last week, but they let me see a different team after I asked for a correction. Â We moving in the right direction and on a good path right now," said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach.Â

Mark Beckham has his team at 2-0 after handling Murray State 7-0, and the University of Tennessee-Martin 5-2 in the dual match season opener on Jan. 21. With three players losing a combined two games to in their matches, sophomore Tiffany Huber, won her match without giving up a single game to the opposing Murray State player. Against UT-Martin, Huber won her match 6-0, 6-2 to keep her undefeated in singles play for the season.

Western Kentucky University is set to open their season against the University of Detroit-Mercy on Friday, and then the University of Louisville on Saturday. This will be the third year in-a-row that the Cardinals will square off against the Hilltoppers, with Louisville having won the past two meetings. Western Kentucky will be starting the season with four freshmen on their roster and returning four from last year. Under head coach, Jonatan Berhane, the Hilltoppers have improved upon their record each of the last two years.

The University of Detroit-Mercy will also be opening their season on Friday against Western Kentucky University. Aaron Paajanen is in his second year as the head coach for the Titans, and looks to improve on the 2015-16 season. Nynke Van Der Goot is one of two returning seniors on the team and was tied for first with 11 singles victories last season.
