Freshman Parker Wynn compiles a 5-1 record in his first collegiate tournament
University of Louisville men's tennis player Parker Wynn posted a runner-up finish in the Division II singles draw of the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Monday.
Wynn, a freshman from Richland Hills, Texas, won five straight matches to advance to the finals of his first collegiate tournament before falling 7-6, (7-3) 6-4 to top-seeded Johannes Ingildsen of Florida.
"Parker played pretty well today, but is capable of playing better," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Being in his first college tournament and playing for a singles championship at this prestigious Southern Intercollegiate may have affected him mentally. He got down 2-4 in the first set and came storming back to serve for the set at 5-4. It was very close in the second set 3-3 but his opponent won a couple more big points than he did. That was the difference. I am excited about his future. We feel he has a lot of potential. We plan to get every ounce of it out playing in a venue that has been the site of dozens of NCAA Tournaments adds to the mystique of this event."Â
