Field Hockey Previews 2016 Season on Media Day

University of Louisville head field hockey coach Justine Sowry, along with senior captains Lotta Kahlert and Erin McCrudden and junior Nicole Woods took a break from preseason training to meet with the media Friday afternoon as part of UofL's Fall Sports Media Day.

Sowry and the players previewed the 2016 season, their challenging ACC schedule and discussed USA Field Hockey's exciting performance at the Rio Olympics.

UofL welcomes eight newcomers and returns 15 players including seven starters from last season.The Cardinals finished the 2015 campaign with a 13-7 overall record and made their second-straight NCAA appearance. Louisville was ranked No. 11 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll released on Nov. 10 and spent seven weeks among the top 10 in the nation after opening the 2015 season at No. 12.

Sowry is entering her sixth season at the helm and has compiled a 65-35 record at Louisville along with two NCAA appearances. She guided the Cardinals to a share of the 2013 BIG EAST Championship title and, the past two seasons, has navigated the program's transition to the ACC – arguably the toughest conference in Division I field hockey. Â

The Cardinals will play host to Ohio University in a preseason scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 18 at Trager Stadium before opening the 2016 season at Indiana on Friday, Aug. 26 and will travel to Oxford, Ohio for a matchup against Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 28. The Cardinals will play host to Brown in their home opener on Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. and will face Richmond on Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Admission is free to all home games. Â
