Daniel Iceman finished second at the Kentucky Open
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former University of Louisville men's golfer Daniel Iceman fired a 10-under par 206, but fell in a playoff at the 97th Kentucky Open at University of Louisville Golf Club on Thursday.
Iceman played extremely well for the three rounds, shooting 70-66-70, including a 2-under par during the final round of competition. He tied with Ashton Van Horne of Georgetown, which led to a playoff on Iceman's home course
Iceman, the Assistant at Weissinger Hills Golf Course, posted a steady final round two-under-par 70. Â Iceman, Van Horne and Patrick Newcomb of Benton shared the lead (back and forth every which way) for much of the day. Â In their first playoff hole, beginning on 18, both Van Horne and Iceman made pars to advance to the 10th. Â Iceman hit his approach shot long and left and was unable to convert his par chance, while Van Horne hit the green in regulation and made his three foot putt to become the best golfer in Kentucky for 2016.
Van Horne slowed after an opening round of 74 but a second round 66 helped rally his spirits. Â Even more than that, Van Horne made his presence felt early in the final round by firing an opening nine 31 and finishing with another round of 66 to finish the tournament at ten-under-par. Â In his second professional event after graduating from Belmont University, Van Horne found himself tied with Iceman.
