Henderson finishes 13th in the shot put at the NCAA Championships
Eugene, Ore. – The University of Louisville track and field's Emmonnie Henderson earned second team All-America honors in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"Emmonnie had some trouble with her footing today while it rained during the shot put," said head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm confident she will be able to regroup and come back strong in the discus on Saturday."
Despite the adverse weather conditions, Henderson finished 13th in the shot put with a throw of 16.37m (53-8½ ). The throw was good enough for fourth in her flight, 13th overall in the competition, helping the junior secured second team All-America honors.
Henderson ranked in the top 20 in the nation in the shot put, winning the ACC title in the event with a personal best throw of 16.55m (54-3.75). Henderson also finished seventh in the shot put at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. She was named the ACC Women's Field MVP after winning the shot put and finishing second in the discus at the ACC Championships.
The men will wrap up competition on Friday. Ben Williams will compete in the triple jump at 8:30 p.m. ET. Edwin Kibichiy will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase finals at 8:54 p.m. ET. Williams is making his second appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships after a fourth place finish last year to earn first team All-American honors.
