
Fathauer Qualifies for US Open

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Former University of Louisville All-American Derek Fathauer qualified for the 2016 United States Open when he shot an 7-under par score of 135 over 36 holes at the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier in Memphis, Tenn.
The US Open will be played at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Penn. on June 16-19.
Playing at the Germantown and Ridgeway Country Clubs, Fathauer carded a 66 in the second round at the Ridgeway Country Club Course, before shooting 69 in the opening round at the Germantown Country Club Course. Fathauer finished in a five-way tie for fourth place, just four shots behind the winner D.J. Trahan of Plano, Texas.
Fathauer, who turned pro in 2009, qualified for his first-ever US Open. During his professional career, Fathauer has appeared in 75 events, posting a pair of top-10 finishes and seven in the top 25.
The product of Stuart, Fla, played for the Cardinals from 2004-07, and is one of the most decorated players in school history. He owns the school record for six career wins during his career and owns the second-best career stroke average in school history. A two-time BIG EAST champion, Fathauer also earned third-team All-American accolades in 2007 and 2008.
