
2016 Field Hockey Schedule Released

Cards will play nine home games in the 2016 regular season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville field hockey coach Justine Sowry has announced the 2016 schedule which includes nine regular season games at Trager Stadium. Admission is free to all home games.

The Cardinals' 2016 slate features seven top 10 teams including 2015 national champion Syracuse, with NCAA runner-up North Carolina and semifinalist Duke visiting Trager Stadium. Additionally, nine of Louisville's 19 opponents finished last season ranked in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association top 20.

"Our 2016 schedule again is one of the toughest we have had in our program's history," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "Combining a challenging regional schedule with the arduous ACC competition, it will certainly test our squad this year. This is exactly where we want to be and it will help prepare us to take a step further in achieving our ultimate goal."
After opening the 2016 season with a pair of road games at Indiana on Aug. 26 and Miami (Ohio) on UAug. 29. Louisville will play host to Brown and Richmond in its home-opening weekend Sept. 3 and 4 before hitting the road for Central Michigan and Michigan State the following weekend.

The Cards will open ACC play on Sept. 16 when 2015 NCAA semifinalist Duke visits Trager Stadium for a Friday night matchup and will face Ohio State on Sunday.

The last two weeks of September will be spent on the road at Wake Forest – which finished the 2015 season ranked seventh, Appalachian State and then 2015 NCAA Champion Syracuse.

The month of October open with a five-game home stand featuring Iowa, No. 9 Boston College, No 19 Northwestern, 2015 NCAA runner-up and top-ranked North Carolina before facing Kent State in Louisville's home finale on Oct. 16. The Cards will finish the regular season on the road at No. 4 Virginia, James Madison and No. 10 Michigan before entering postseason play.

The ACC Championship will be held Nov. 3-6 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Louisville field hockey welcomes six newcomers and return 17 players including eight starters from last season. The Cardinals finished the 2015 campaign with a 13-7 overall record and made their second-straight NCAA appearance. Louisville was ranked No. 11 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll released on Nov. 10 and spent seven weeks among the top 10 in the nation after opening the 2015 season at No. 12.
