Henderson and Kibichiy Advance to the NCAA Championships on Friday

Emmonnnie Henderson and Edwin Kibichiy qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Emmonnie Henderson and Edwin Kibichiy both qualified for the NCAA Championships on the second day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday. Henderson advanced in the discus while Kibichiy advanced in the 3000m steeplechase.
"Today was a much better day for us," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Emmonnie got us off to a great start this afternoon and Edwin finished up tonight with a great race in the steeple. Tomorrow will be a big day for us with the shot put, triple jump, high jump and 4x400m relay. I am confident that we will add some more finalists for the trip to Eugene in June."
Henderson started the day off for the Cardinals with the discus throw. She threw a season best mark of 54.18m (177-9) on her first attempt of the day. She finished seventh overall and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second straight year in the discus.
Kibichiy wrapped up the day in the 3000m steeplechase. He ran in the third and final heat, winning it with a time of 8:39.49. Kibichiy finished fifth overall, advancing to his third straight NCAA Championship in the event.
Freshman Raven Grant ran in the 200m prelims, her second event of the meet. She finished 30th with a time of 23.75. In the men's discus, Isaac Bowling finished 32nd with a throw of 52.34m (171-9). He will compete in the shot put tomorrow.
In the women's pole vault, Jade Hawkins and Morgan Zacharias finished tied for 42nd. Both finished with a mark of 3.80m (12-5½).
Ten Cardinals will compete on the final day of action at the NCAA East Preliminaries tomorrow. Ben Williams will start the day off in the triple jump at 3:00 p.m.
