
Harrison Receives All-Region Honor, 14 Cardinals Named CRCA Scholar Athletes

Harrison spent 2016 season in Louisville’s varsity eight boat and was an All-ACC First Team honoree
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville sophomore Kirsti Harrison was chosen as a First Team All-Region selection by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association while 14 Cardinals were named as Scholar Athletes on Thursday.
A native of Belmont, Michigan, Harrison rowed in Louisville's varsity eight boat throughout the 2016 season and was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team honoree. These awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections.
Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Louisville's CRCA Scholar Athletes for 2016 included junior Gabi Biedenharn, sophomore Rebecca Busk, senior Cynthia Doyle, sophomore Callie McGowan, junior Kylie Noltemeyer, senior Katie Nord, sophomore Sarah Podwojski, sophomore Rachael Schmetzer, sophomore Sophie Schulz, senior Hanna Spittel, sophomore Kim Streetz, senior Abbie Wade, sophomore Rebecca Yaklic and sophomore Allison Zimmermann. To be eligible for CRCA scholar athlete consideration, rowers had to be in at least their second year of eligibility, had to row in an NCAA or IRA eligible boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the spring races and had to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career.
