The match was decided at the two-spot where Morin-Kougoucheff fell 6-2 to No. 21 Chrysochos in the first set, but rallied to the second 6-1 to force a decisive third set. Chrysochos prevailed 6-2 in the third set to clinch the match. On court one, No. 14 Skander Mansouri defeated Gornet 7-5, 6-3 to make the score 5-0.
Â
Brown put the Cardinals on the scoreboard at the No. 3 position where he dropped the first set 6-2 to Ho, but rebounded to win the next two sets by scores of 6-4 each.
Â
The match ended on court five where freshman George Hedley battled with Uspensky. The Demon Deacon won the first set 6-3, but Hedley fought back with a 7-5 win in the second before Uspensky gained a 6-4 edge in the third to make the final score 6-1.
Â
"I really liked the way No. 3 doubles came out aggressively, I felt good about that court," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "The highlight of our match was Jeff Brown who played lights out in the second and third sets. He was extremely decisive and tough and he played Louisville tennis. George (Hedley) had a chance, but lost to one of the top three recruits in America and went 6-4 in the third, so we can see what kind of freshman we have in George. Chris (Morin-Kougoucheff) played one of the top players in the ACC and went into three sets. We won one and two courts went into three sets, we had some functional pieces out there, but we didn't have enough of them. Hopefully starting Wednesday we can piece it together for a couple of days in the ACC Championship."
Â
The Cardinals (14-16, 1-11 ACC) will travel to Cary, N.C. to face Boston College in the first round of the ACC Championship on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
