
Track and Field Wraps Up Louisville Invitational with 10 Wins

Cardinals finish day with 10 wins, 26 top three finishes and a new school record
LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up competition on Saturday at the Louisville Invitational with 10 wins, 26 top three finishes and a new school record at Cardinal Park.
The women won the team competition with 200.50 points followed by Indiana (129), Michigan State (129.50), Purdue (104), Notre Dame (98.50), and Pittsburgh (51.50). The Cardinal men finished third with 147.50 points. Purdue won the men's competition with 172 points followed by Indiana (159.50), Michigan State (123), Pittsburgh (63), and Notre Dame (35).
"We were fortunate to be able to put together a great six team invitational on a gorgeous weekend," said head coach Dale Cowper. "A big thank you to the officials and countless volunteers that made this a great weekend of track and field on campus." Â
"There were many outstanding performances this weekend and we were able to pick up quite a few additional round one qualifiers. Our program is continuing to grow through the month of April and we're looking forward to the post season coming up in May and June."
Freshman Raven Grant won the 100m dash with a school record time of 11:46, which was just two tenths of a second off her preliminary time. The previous school record of 11.48 was set by Margret Harris in 2013. Kayla Tyson finished third in the event with a time 11.62, a personal best.
Emmonnie Henderson had two strong performances at the meet, winning both the discus and the shot put for her first two outdoor victories of the season. She threw a season best mark of 53.04m/174-00 in the discus and hurled another season best mark of 16.93m/55-6.50 in the shot put.
Freshman Martice Moore won the 110m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.28 for his first collegiate victory. Alexis Murry won her first collegiate event as she led the field in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.67.
Japhet Kipkoech held off teammate Calvin Chemoiywo on the last stretch to win the 5000m run with a personal best time of 14:30.25. Chemoiywo finished second with a personal best of 14:30.50.
Bre'Yana Wash won the long jump with a jump of 6.04m/19-9.75 to lead the field. The win was Wash's third of her outdoor season career.
Claire Noser ran a personal best of 10:46.76 in the grueling 3000m steeplechase for her first victory of the outdoor season. Teammate Rachel Pease took second with a personal best time of 10:57.91. Â
In his first 3000m steeplechase of the season, senior Edwin Kibichiy paced the field with a time of 8:43.76, which was a meet record. Sophomore Kaleb Rowe led the field in the triple jump with a mark of 14.58m/47-10.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Murry, Tyson, Wash and Grant won the event with a season best time of 45.39.             Â
The Cardinals return to action next weekend as they host the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational at Cardinal Park on April 21-23.
