Woods scored four goals in Junior Pan American Games
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Nicole Woods recently returned to campus after trip to Trinidad & Tobago, where she helped USA Field Hockey's Under 21 Team to a silver medal in the Junior Pan American Championship.  As one of the top-two finishers of the tournament, USA earned a berth to the Junior Women's World Cup which will be held in Santiago, Chile November 23 - December 4, 2016. "The past two weeks has been easily one of the most incredible experiences I have ever been a part of," said Woods. "Everything felt very surreal from hearing the National Anthem before the games to playing against some of the best players in the world."
Â
Woods scored four goals as USA compiled a 5-0 record with wins over Trinidad & Tobago, Canada, Mexico, Barbados and Chile to reach the championship game where they fell to Argentina.
Â
"With our qualification to the Junior World Cup I feel a stronger sense of motivation to prepare myself for the next year," said Woods. "I'm truly grateful for my coaches' support and willingness to prepare me for the Pan Ams as well as my academic advisors and professors for working with me and assisting me over the past few weeks. This experience has helped build my confidence on the field and pushed me to set higher goals for myself for the future."
"We are incredibly proud of Nicole and what she has accomplished with the Junior National Team, winning the silver medal at the Pan Ams," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "The experience she has gained competing on the international stage is so invaluable for our program and already it is noticeable on the practice field. She now has an opportunity to represent USA at the Junior World Cup, one of the premier world events for any sport."
