Senior Jeffrey Brown wins at No. 5 singles
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 40 Virginia Tech at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

"Virginia Tech returned every starter except one back from a team that hosted the NCAA Regionals," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "They are a talent and experienced team and it showed today. Almost every close set went their way. Jeff Brown played well today."

Virginia Tech (11-4, 3-2 ACC) took the doubles point to start the match. The Hokies gained an early edge at the No. 2 spot where Amerigo Contini and Edoardo Tessaro teamed to beat Louisville's freshman duo of Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and George Hedley 6-1. The Cards answered at No. 3 when junior Sean Donohue and sophomore Courtney Lock paired for a 6-2 win over Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper. The first point of the match came down to the No. 1 spot where Virginia Tech's 21st ranked tandem of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro defeated Louisville seniors Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown 6-4.

In singles action, the Hokies added to the lead when No. 59 Eduardo Tessaro defeated freshman Michael Quang 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Bjerrehus picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Morin-Kougoucheff to make the score 3-0. The match was decided at the three-spot where Contini edged Hedley 7-6 (7-4) in the first set and went on to win the second 6-1.

On court one, No. 18 Monteiro defeated Gornet 6-2, 6-4 and Corbett picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Donohue to build 6-0 lead for the Hokies.

Brown put the Cardinals on the scoreboard with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0 (10-5) decision against Mitch Harper for the 6-1 final.

Louisville (9-11, 0-6 ACC) will return to action on Thursday when the Cards play host to Illinois State and Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
