Robinson earns the second ACC Indoor event title on the second day of competition
ROXBURY CROSSING, Mass. – The University of Louisville track and field team concluded the second day of the 2016 ACC Indoor Championships inside the Reggie Lewis Center with the program's second indoor event title in as many days.
After two days of competition, the men's team are currently in fifth place with 20.50 points while the women are in sixth place with 21.50 points.
"Today was a mixed bag for us," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We had some exceptional performances and some areas where we fell a little short of our expectations coming into the day."
Damar Robinson made it the second straight day with an ACC indoor event title for the Cardinals when he cleared the bar for the victory in the high jump. Robinson held off Notre Dame's Matthew Birzer with a jump of 2.19m/7-2.25 to set a personal best and strike gold. His mark is currently tied for eighth in the nation. Teammate Javen Reeves earned second team All-ACC honors after he finished sixth by clearing the bar at 2.07m/6-9.5.
"Damar really pulled through in an exciting high jump competition," said Cowper. "He's done a great job returning from injury a few weeks ago and I'm extremely proud of his performance today."
Junior Bre'Yana Wash capped an impressive indoor season as she earned first team All-ACC honors with a third place finish in the long jump by jumping to a distance of 6.13m/20-1.5.
"Bre'Yana wrapped up her indoor season by earning All-ACC performances in the women's long jump," Cowper said. "She has done a great job throughout the season and this was a nice capstone."
Freshman Raven Grant advanced to the finals after winning her heat with a personal best time of 7.46 in the 60m dash. The freshman came just short of advancing to the 200m finals as she finished ninth with a time of 24.17. In the 800m, Kelsey Cramsey set a personal best time of 2:07.21 to advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon.
"Kelsey Cramsey and Raven Grant executed perfectly in the 800 and 60 meter races," said Cowper. "We look forward to watching them in the finals tomorrow."
In the heptathlon, Eric Fox finished just shy of his own school record with 5337 points and earned second team All-ACC honors for his fourth place finish.
