Three players stand in the top 10 after one round
PONTE VERDE, Fla. - Three University of Louisville men's golfers stand in the top 10 after one round of the John Hayt Inviational at the Sawgrass Country Club Friday in Ponte Verde, Fla.
As a team, the Cardinals shot 301 to sit in fourth-place overall -- eight shots behind the leader, North Florida (293). Jacksonville is in second place after shooting 299 and Oklahoma State is in third place after carding a round of 300.
"We were playing in difficult conditions this morning." head coach Mark Crabtree said. "Our three leading players played well, but need the others to step up. It was a good start for our team on a very challenging course."
Playing on one of the nation's most difficult golf courses, three Cardinals are in contention for medalists honors. Robin Sciot-Siegrist, J.D. Lehman and Keegan de Lange each carded rounds of 2-over par (74) to sit in a tie for ninth place, just nine shots off the lead heading into Saturday's second round.
Â
Teammates Simon Zach and Hugo Esposito are tied for 54th-place overall after shooting a 7-over par 79.
