Cards hope to build off a succesful fall campaign
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Coming off a solid fall season, the University of Louisville men's golf team open its spring season at 11th-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament, Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 22-23), on Hilton Head Island. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days will begin with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m.
The Wexford Plantation course, an Arnold Palmer signature course, measures 6,913 yards and is a par 72 layout.
Head coach Mark Crabtree, who is in his 17th seson, is pleased with the direction of the program, and is looking for a big spring out of his team.
"I've seen tremendous growth and improvement from all players," Crabtree said. "They are working hard daily in refining their skills and are unified as a team to achieve their goals. We are working toward  being at the NCAA Championships in May."
Senior Robin Sciot-Siegrist is in the conversation as the best player to ever play for the Cardinals. A qualifier for the NCAA Championships last season, Sciot-Siegrist won an ACC Championship, in one of the best golf conferences in the nation.
"Robin is our leader on the course," Crabtree said. "He is a tough, competitive guy who continues to get better. He is team player and has an outstanding attitude."
Â
Junior J.D. Lehman finished the fall season with the second-best stroke average on the squad and is also one of the team leaders.
"Lehman is one of our hardest workers," Crabtree said. "He's very dedicated and I'm seeing solid signs of improvement from last semester."
Live scoring will be available at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=8437
