
Track and Field Signs 10 Standouts

Cardinals sign 10 prep athletes for the 2017-18 season
LOUISVILLE, KY. -- University of Louisville track and field head coach Dale Cowper announced Monday the signing of 10 prep athletes to national letters-of-intent for the 2017-18 season.

The women's track and field program added seven signees - Sharnae Alston (sprints), Brooke Raglin (sprints), Angel Amadi (sprints), Madison Kiser (distance), Renate Van Tonder (jumps), Makenli Forrest (throws), and Victoria Farley (throws). The men's track and field program added three signees – Dontarian Evans (sprints), Ben Ewert (distance), and Lucas Weaver (pole vault).
"I'm excited about this group of signees," said Cowper. Â "Our staff has worked tirelessly to put together arguably the best signing class in our team's history. Â The group continues to build upon our objective of being a complete track and field program that also excels in cross country. Â These students will help us achieve our goal of being a consistent ACC contender and strong NCAA representative while achieving at a high level in the classroom and being involved in our local community."Â

Alston competes for Blythewood High School. She has a career best time of 11.76 in the 100 meters and a career best time of 23.97 in the 200 meters. Raglin is from Bryan Station High School in Lexington. She has career best time of 11.82 in the 100 meters and a career best time of 24.29 in the 200 meters. Amadi will also bolster the sprint program. She is from Chapel Hill High School in Douglasville, Ga. She owns a personal best time of 11.83 in the 100 meters and 24.80 in the 200 meters.Â

Kiser is from Pioneer High School in Royal Center, Ind. She will join a talented team of athletes that just finished a school record season in cross country. Kiser is the Indiana State Champion in the 800 meters. She owns a personal best time of 2:11.76 in the event. Van Tonder is from Pretoria, South Africa. She is the Commonwealth Games Youth Champion, the South African Youth and Junior Champion and the South African Schools Champion. She recorded a personal best of 20'6" in the long jump and 40'1" in the triple jump.Â

Forrest is from Woodward Academy in College Park, Ga. She is the Georgia State Champion in the shot put and discus. She owns career bests of 153'4" in the discus, 45'8" in the shot put, 176'8" in the hammer and 57' in the weight throw. Farley is from Portage High School in Hobart, Ind. She is a two-time Indiana Shot Put State Champion. She recorded a personal best throw of 46'11.75" in the shot put.Â

On the men's side, Evans is from Meridian Community College. He holds personal best time of 47.47 in the 400 meters, 21.21 in the 200 meters and 10.71 in the 100 meters. Ewert is from Beavercreek High School in Beavercreek, Ohio. He is the USATF Junior Olympic Champion. He has a career best time of 5:54.22 in the 2000m Steeplechase. Rounding out the men's fall signees is Weaver from Providence Catholic High School. He recorded a personal best of 15'7" in the pole vault.Â
