Cardinals wrap up this season's ACC slate on Wednesday and Friday
The University of Louisville volleyball returns to the KFC Yum! Center for the final regular season homestand this Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. when they play host to ACC foe Syracuse. The Cards will then face Boston College on Friday, Nov. 25 also at 7 p.m.
Â
UofL is 10-18 overall and 5-13 in the ACC. The Cards are led by freshman outside hitter Melanie McHenry, who has a team-high 324 kills, 33 aces and is second on the team in digs with 231, adding 46 blocks, 10 of which were solo. Tess Clark leads all blockers with 95 and adds 250 kills. Setter Kali Eaken has 711 assists and 131 digs.
Â
The Cardinals have won three of their last five matches including last Sunday's sweep of Clemson. The Cards fell Syracuse on  Oct. 9 when Morgan Miller had a career-high 23 kills and 11 digs were no enough as Louisville fell to the Orange 3-2 in Syracuse. UofL hit .152 and had three blocks and four aces. Jasmine Bennett added 14 kills with freshman Melanie McHenry adding 13 along with two aces. Syracuse was led by Mackenzie Weaver's 18 kills. She was assisted by Leah Levert's 12 kills and six blocks.  SU had 14 blocks and hit .226 with 4 aces.
Â
Syracuse is trying to buck a four-game losing streak, and sits in the middle of the pack in the ACC standings at 10th with six wins and 12 losses in conference play. The Orange and the Cardinals hold a 22-game all-time series, dating back to the first match in 1982. 'Cuse trails Louisville 2-21, after claiming its first win over the fellow ACC member last November at the Women's Building on Senior Night. The Cardinals were in the BIG EAST with the Orange through 2012, until 'Cuse made the switch to the ACC and Louisville moved to the American Conference. The two weren't separated for long, as the Cardinals made their way into the ACC the following year (2014). The pair have competed twice a year since both teams have been members of the ACC. Syracuse claimed a five-set win over the Cardinals earlier this season at the Women's Building. The Orange out-blocked Louisville, 14.0-5.0, in the victory. Mackenzie Weaver led 'Cuse with 18 kills in the Sunday afternoon game, while Santita Ebangwese had 8 blocks and Jalissa Trotter had a career-high 51 assists. The trio of Belle Sand, Annie Bozzo and Mackenzie Weaver had 20, 17 and 17 digs, respectively. Each team tallied four service aces on the game.
Â
Boston College heads into the weekend at 8-20 and 3-15 in the ACC with a 1-8 road record. The Eagles are led by Julia Topor's 240 kills and Sol Calvete's 189 kills. Libero Madisen Lydon has 29 aces and a team high 330 digs. Anna Skold has 78 total blocks. The Eagles have wins over LIU-Brooklyn, UMass-Lowell, Rider, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Virginia.  The Cardinals beat the Eagles 3-2 in Boston on Oct. 6 led by Tess Clark, who had 16 kills and five blocks. The Cardinals hit .205 and had 9.5 blocks. Janelle Jenkins pitched in 18 kills and Jasmine Bennett had 14 kills and two blocks in the 23-25, 25-18, 14-25, 26-24, 15-12 win. Boston College was led by Sol Calvete's 17 kills and two blocks. Â
