Cardinals improve to 5-0 in fall play
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Louisville lacrosse team continue fall play with three wins at the Louisville Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals defeated James Madison, Marquette and Vanderbilt to improve to 5-0 in fall competition. Â
Â
Overall, the team continued to improve as compared to last week. A solid week of practice cleaned up some areas that reflected on the field on Saturday.
Â
Offensively, the Cardinals had more rhythm and continued to work on our spacing and ball movement. Multiple players proved to be threats on and off ball and the methodical approach seemed to be effective.
Â
The Cardinals' speed in the midfield off the draw gave provided some fast break opportunities.
Â
Defensively, the Cardinals showed the biggest improvement from last week. They also improved as the day went along. The Cards continued to work on our communication and off-ball defense against some solid feeding teams. The goalies made some really nice saves under pressure, allowing them to settle in early and get rid of some first year jitters.
Â
Meghan Siverson continued to improve on the draw, giving the Cardinals an opportunity to fight for 50/50 ground balls with placement to her teammates and winning multiple to herself. Her extra reps this week showed on the field.
Â
Once again the Cardinals will look to improve from the weekend with two more weeks of practice before the next fall competition.
