Kibichiy wins first ACC honor of the season
Louisville, Ky. – University of Louisville track and field's Edwin Kibichiy was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Track Performer of the Week after strong finishes in two distance running events at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Kibichiy ranks among the nation's top 34 in two individual events following a strong showing in the Notre Dame Invitational. The junior from Kapsabet, Kenya, ran the nation's 15th-best time in the men's 3,000 meters with a season-best 8:06.55. He followed up with a personal-best mile time of 4:07.4 that netted his second first-place finish in as many weeks and ranks 34th nationally. Kibichiy's efforts helped lead the Cardinals to a second-place team finish at the meet, which featured four ranked teams.Â
Kibichiy has won an event in each of the team's three meets this season. He opened up the season with a victory in the 5,000m at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener and followed up with victories in the mile run at the UK Invitational and the Notre Dame Invitational in consecutive weekends.
