Field Hockey Set for Preseason Scrimmages this Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team will face Iowa in a preseason scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals will continue preseason action with an alumnae game Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free.
About Louisville: The Cardinals are coming off of a banner season in which they posted a 15-6 overall record and went 3-3 in their inaugural ACC campaign before earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. Louisville returns 13 letterwinners and five starters including 2014 two-time NFHCA All-West Region selection senior Elisa Garcia from the 2014 squad along with fellow seniors Megan Anstotz, Katharine Gwynne-Wood and Victoria Stratton. In addition to the returners, seven freshmen will take the field in the 2015 season.
• Head coach Justine Sowry is entering her fifth season as the Cardinals' head coach and has compiled a 52-28 record at Louisville while winning a share of the 2013 BIG EAST Championship.
Scouting Iowa: The Hawkeyes finished the 2014 season ranked No. 16 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason rankings. Iowa returns three seniors from last year's team which posted an 11-7 overall record and went 4-4 in Big Ten play.
• Iowa is coached by Lisa Cellucci who is entering her second season at the helm after spending 14 seasons on the Hawkeyes' coaching staff.
Louisville will open the 2015 season with a pair of games next weekend at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals will take on Appalachian State on Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. and will face Indiana in the annual 'Battle of the Border' Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m.
