University of Louisville men's tennis player Courtney Lock added another impressive accomplishment to his resume after helping the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team to a 5-0 win over Moldova in a Euro/Africa Zone Group II tennis play-off match at Harare Sports Club.
The rising sophomore from Harare, Zimbabwe earned a spot on, Zimbabwe's Davis Cup team in early July, prior to the Euro/Africa Group II playoffs which took place July 17-19. After singles wins by Takanyi Garanganga at No. 1 and (Courtney Lock's) brother Benjamin at No. 2, Lock teamed with Mark Fynn for a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (6) victory over Dmitrii Baskov and Andrei Soltoinnu to clinch the match for Zimbabwe.
"Courtney is having an amazing summer from defeating the #560 ATP player in the world, making it to the doubles semifinals in the Zimbabwe Futures and now clinching a Davis Cup win for his country," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "It doesn't get much better than that. I am so happy for him because he works so hard. He joins former Cardinal great Austen Childs who clinched a Davis Cup win for New Zealand in 2010."
