Louisville Lacrosse got the experience of a lifetime as they traveled overseas to the beautiful country of Italy! Bouncing all around from Lake Como, Milan, Cinque Terre, Rome, Pisa, Capri Island and even Switzerland, the Louisville Lacrosse team had an exciting time seeing new sights and having the wonderful opportunity to grow the game of lacrosse. We invite you to follow along on our blog as members of the team share with you stories, pictures, and memories of the trip they will never forget.
DAY 7: ROME, THE COLLOSEUM, AND A LITTLE LACROSSE
We walked more through Rome and we saw a lot of its history from the ruins to the gorgeous Colosseum. Rome was an upbeat city and it actually felt like we were pulled back in time but on a hot beautiful summer day.
Before visiting the Rome ruins we took a guided tour and went to see the Spanish Steps and the Trevi's Fountain. Both seemed to have construction near them, it was incredible to see how beautiful they really are.
Next, we were able to come across the Ancient Ruins of Rome. It was surprising how much of the ancient city is still standing. It was truly incredible to see how people were able to make a whole city. We were very impressed with how they were able build the city without the tools we have today. As we continued to walk we ended up at the gigantic Colosseum.
The Colosseum was momentous and after seeing so many pictures of it, it was an incredible feeling seeing it right in person. Looking from the outside, the Colosseum was incredible but actually walking inside the huge stadium and seeing what was inside was truly amazing. The inside arena was HUGE and so pretty.
Rome was an amazing city and we were very glad we got to explore and see all it has to offer. That night we headed off to our goodbye dinner at the delicious restaurant Satiricvs. Here we ate a tasty and true Italian meal. Also with four birthdays that occurred on the trip, we able to treat them with a great big song and cake at the end of the dinner! We had some heart felt Thank yous and Goodbyes as it was touching and bonding moment for the entire team.
What an experience it was to be suiting up for a game, in ITALY. It was just so surreal to think about the opportunity to play the sport we love in such a beautiful place. The impact that this game had on our team went deeper than just lacrosse. We got to see another style of lacrosse and introduce our style to people who soon became friends.
Yes we walked onto the field prepared to play the game just like every other, because that's what we do, but how we walked off the field was different. We had a new appreciation for what we do every day and why.
