Sciot-Siegrist Battles Through Second Round at NCAA Championships
May 30, 2015 | Men's Golf
BRADENTON, Fla.- Golf can be a humbling sport, and University of Louisville junior men's golfer found that out the hard way during the second round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships Saturday at the par-72 Concession Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Playing under sunny, clear skies and humid temperatures, Sciot-Siegrist had a tough day on the 7,483-yard course, which has proved to be difficult for all participants. The native of France fired an 11-over par 83, which was the worst round of his illustrious career, and marked just fourth-ever round in the 80s. He is tied for 146th place with rounds of 75-83=158.
"It's a tough golf course," Mark Crabtree said. "Robin made a couple of early mistakes and could never recover. It was a hard lesson to learn, but you know he will learn, and become a better player because of it."
Sciot-Siegrist, who entered championship play with a school-best 70.76 stroke average, struggled from the beginning, and was never able to get on track.
Starting on the 10th hole, Sciot-Siegeist bogeyed or double bogeyed five of the first seven holes, and six of the first nine holes to shoot a 44 on the front nine.
The last nine holes was a little better for the talented junior, who played that nine in 3-over par. After recording five birdies on Friday, Sciot-Siegrist didn't score his first birdie until the final hole of the day.
It's unlikely that Siot-Siegrist would advance to Monday's round, so Crabtree hopes that Sciot-Siegrist would use Sunday's round to continue his rapid development.
"I want him to finish his year up strong," Crabtree said. "It's about getting better. There is plenty of more golf to be played after this so I want to see him continue to improve. He's had a great year and this was a great learning experience for him."
Sciot-Siegrist will close out the 2014-2015 golf season when he tees off at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
