BRADENTON, Fla.- University of Louisville men's golfer Robin Sciot-Siegrist hasn't suffered many bumps in the road this season, but the native of France has his work cut out for him after the first round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships at the par-72 Concession Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Sciot-Siegrist, one of nine individual qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, fired a 3-over 75 on Friday to sit on a tie for 72nd place.
After playing the front nine at 4-over par, Sciot-Siegrist responded by shooting 1-under par on the back,
"I played decent today," Sciot-Siegrist said. "I made some good shots, but missed some opportunities out there this afternoon. I need to play better on Saturday, but still did some good things. I'm just looking to be more consistent."
Playing under sunny skies, Sciot-Siegrist was up-and-down all afternoon, but did post five birdies, which was one of the top numbers of any player during first round of action.
"I was able to score birdies," Sciot-Siegrist said. "However, I had a couple of bad break, which cost me a few strokes. I'm looking forward to getting back on the course on Saturday."
Starting on the first hole, Sciot-Siegrist scored a par before bogeying the second hole. He tallied his first scoring mark on the par 5 580-yard hole to get back to even.
He would bogey the final three holes on the front nine and No. 10 before stopping the string with a birdie on the 11th.
Sciot-Siegrist started to turn his game around on the back nine. He birdied No. 13 and No. 14 to get to 2-over par and start to gain some momentum. However, a double-bogey on No. 16 pushed him back to 4-over par, but a another birdie on No. 17 settled him at 3-over par.
"I think it was the NCAA Tournament. You have to be real sharp," head coach Mark Crabtree said. "He was sharp in some ways, but wasn't sharp in others. I think missing some of those puts early affected him, but he responded with some birdies on the back. It was a struggle, but he will be ready to go on Saturday."
Sciot-Siegrist will tee off of hole 10 at 9 a.m. Saturday.
